For his pastels, Degas preferred tracing paper, while Matisse had a soft spot for C'à Grain^® and Lavis B, which were perfectly suited to his gouache paper cut-outs. A large number of Picasso's pen and ink sketches were reproduced on C'à Grain^®. As for Montval^® paper, it was developed in response to a request by Aristide Maillol.
